What to Expect on a Visit to Petticoat Fair

Upon Arrival

When you arrive, please sign in at the front counter if there is not a fitter waiting for you. We like our fitters to work individually with each customer to ensure that you will receive specialized attention. For this reason there may be a wait to for a fitter to become available. Please be prepared to wait a few minutes, and on busier days the wait can be a little while longer.

While Waiting

Feel free to browse through sleepwear, swimsuits, shapewear and panties on display around the store. Once a fitter is ready to help you they will call your name and will head back to the fitting room to find you, if needed. Also, there are benches and seats around the store where you can relax and read a magazine while you wait to be called by a fitter.

Once a Fitter Calls You

The fitter will ask you a few questions to determine your goals for the fitting. It could be that you need a bra for a particular dress, you've never been fitted and would like to find a well fitting bra, you like the bras you had before and just need new ones, or you need to be remeasured for a new size.

When You Get to the Fitting Room

The fitter will take you to a fitting room where she will measure you over your shirt. You do not need to undress for the measurement. She will measure around your rib cage, and across each breast. This will give your fitter a good starting place to estimate bra size. She may ask you questions about bra style preference. You can also tell her about problems you have with current bras to help her understand the style that will help address your individual needs.

Trying on a Bra

A fitter will usually start by bringing you a bra to try on. A measuring tape is a good estimate of size, but it is no substitute for seeing the bra on the body. When the fitter brings you a bra she will step out of the room to let you try it on. You will fasten the bra wherever is comfortable and let the fitter know when you have it on. She will come in the room and check the fit on you. Checking the fit consists of the fitter assessing the tightness of the band by feeling the bra against your back as well as checking cup size and overall matching of the bra style to your shape. While she is in the room checking the bra is the time to tell her what you like about the bra, or what things you would rather the bra look like or do, as well as tell her where your comfort level with the bra is. Once she has checked the first bra, your fitter will continue to bring different styles and sizes from our stockroom until some great options are found.

Throughout Your Fitting

Once you and a fitter have found a good size and some styles that work well she will bring you a variety of things to try on. All bras range from style to style and manufacturer to manufacturer when it comes to the way the bra wears. Because of differences in fit, a fitter will want to check each bra on you to ensure that it is the best fit for you.

If you have been looking at basic bra styles, take this time to ask your fitter about other items such as sports bras, sleepwear, swimsuits, or strapless bras that you may want to try on as well. Please ask any questions you may have about your bra wardrobe and what bras are best for which clothes. Take your time deciding which bras you want to purchase. There is no pressure. Your fitter's goal is to make sure that you leave with the bras that fit you the best and make you feel great.

Once You Find Everything You Need

When you are finished with your fitting, your fitter will go over care instructions for the bras and other garments you are purchasing.

You are welcome to wear one of your new bras out. You would be surprised how many women do!

Your fitter will meet you back at the counter with your items to be purchased and we will complete your transaction.

During Checkout

For first time customers, we will have you fill out an information sheet with your name, address, phone number and email. We will use this profile in the computer to save your purchases so that you can come back and easily purchase more of what you have bought before, or it gives your next fitter a good starting place on style and size. Also in your file, we can note bras that you like but aren't ready to buy that day. You can always call us too, and we can take a credit card number over the phone and mail out bras that you have purchased before. In the future we are hoping to have online shopping as an option for our existing customers to reorder bras they have purchased before. After you fill out the customer information sheet the cashier will get you set up with a bra card. Bra card information is also kept on file in the computer and tracked for you. There is also a card with care instructions on it that the cashier can put in your bag as a refresher on the advice given by your fitter in the dressing room.

When You Get Home

You will be amazed at how great you look in all of your clothes. It will be like having a whole new wardrobe! Make sure to take great care of your bras as they are an investment and you want to make sure they continue to fit as well as they did when you were in the store for as long as possible.
