“ Honestly can't believe I haven't written about Petticoat Fair before now. It's sad, because these ladies literally saved my self-esteem.

I have a very healthy set of lungs. Overly healthy. And I didn't realize bra's went larger than a DD. So I'd always been uncomfortable in them, my clothes never fit properly, I slouched, just bad, bad stuff all around.

On my first visit to PF, over 4 years ago, I had no idea what to expect and didn't know if they could even help me. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a warm smile; I believe they sensed my despair. I was led back to a fitting room, by a woman about my age and was quickly, efficiently fitted, with no embarrassment, no judgment, no appraisal.

When I put on a bra that fit, for the first time in my life, at the age of 24, I cried. I couldn't believe how much my back pain subsided, my shoulders didn't ache, my posture improved, and I looked like a 24 year old instead of an 80 year old Grandmother.

I apologized for crying and she patted my back gently and said, it's okay honey, you'd be surprised how many women do.

They took care of me all through my breast reduction recovery period; finding a supportive, but gentle bra to see me through the swelling and healing stage. And then fun, colorful bra's once I was healed.

The women at Petticoat Fair have never been anything but wonderful to me. I will be a customer for as long as I live in this town.

A word of advice: there is a sign-up sheet at their desk area when you walk in. Write down your name, select whether you're there to be fitted or to pick up a previously ordered garment and then peruse the swim suits, night gowns and other lovely things on display. Your name will be called within 15 minutes or so, and they will be more than happy to assist you then, promise. ”

“ Things happen the way they're supposed to happen. The following things happened within 15 minutes:

I was leaving Alamo Village after a movie.
I was stabbed by an underwire that had suddenly committed suicide.
I got in the car, cursing my luck.
I heard a radio ad for Petticoat Fair and realized it was about 90 seconds away.

I thank that underwire. I walked up, signed in and within about 10 minutes was met by Cindy, a very friendly employee. She walked me into a room, surveyed the bounty of my chest, took some measurements and immediately told me I was wearing the wrong size. I was surprised, since I had been fitted at Dillard's about three months earlier. She said that the style of bra I was wearing was wrong for my figure. I have a (freakishly) short waist, and had grown almost accustomed to underwires resting low. Turns out, some companies actually MAKE underwires that are short and wide. Cindy brought in a LOAD of bras and I couldn't believe the difference. My DDs were actually Fs, but in the new bra, they felt...lighter. I felt taller and more balanced. I'm no slave to sizes (one designer's 38DD is another's 40E) and I left with some very high-quality bras. I'm a thrifty person, but when it's something that you use every day, suddenly $175 for three bras divides itself into 365 days. And at less than 50 cents a day, I support two giant globes in comfort, style and appreciation.

That was over a year ago, and I just went back last week for another supply. I was lucky enough to have Cindy once again, and wanted a specific bra - just like one I bought last year. Lo and behold, she looked up my information. Normally, I'm not a fan of stores recording my purchases, but it was really nice and saved a lot of time.

“ Friends have been telling me for years to come here and finally I did. I was very impressed with the level of customer service and undivided attention. Once I was properly measured (whoa, I didn't know they made sizes like mine!), I had armfuls of garments to try on. Not only were my straps adjusted for me, but friendly pointers about how to wear a bra and how it should fit were given. Never before have I had so many options to choose from. Usually at traditional stores like Victoria Secret and Fredricks of Hollywood, I would find maybe 2 bras out of 40 that worked and they were made by the same brand. I found it curious that my previous "fittings" by these other stores were all sizes that the store carried, unlike my true size, which they don't carry. This explains the years of sag and spill and endless frustration.

What was also nice at Petticoat Fair, is that the surplus of bras that I wanted but could not yet afford, were written down by the saleslady for future purchases. They also offered to maintain a file on my sizes and preferences in case any significant others came in and wanted to buy me a gift. They clearly had an abundance of different styles all for different points in a woman's life. I overhead another woman who was shopping for a nursing bra. There were also "sexy", low cut, workhorse bras, and fabulous lingerie.

As I was checking out (which is crazy expensive, but really quite worth it in my opinion), I noticed a sales rack which had cup-sized swimming suits. If you are also well-endowed and blessed, you understand the perils of shopping for swimsuits and the hours of hassle and frustration in the dressing room! At Petticoat Fair, they had a very decent selection of bikinis, tankinis, and one-pieces, all designed to fit and hold your ladies perfectly. ”

“ I just went to Petticoat Fair this afternoon and remembered how lucky we are in Austin to have a store like this. Ladies, we all need properly sized undergarments. If you're not sure whether your unmentionables are a perfect fit, then they probably aren't. But have no fear, the fantastic people at Petticoat Fair will have you looking svelte in the perfectly sized undergarments no time. Petticoat Fair offers a beautiful selection of panties and bras in a wide range of sizes. They can assist with slender, full, or very full figures. They also carry swimsuits, pajamas, lingerie, adorable camisoles, wedding crinoline, and special items for maternity wear, nursing mothers, and breast cancer patients.

It's the kind of store where if you just purchased a prom dress, a wedding dress, or another piece of clothing that needs a special undergarment underneath, you take in your clothing, show it to the saleslady helping you, and she'll go retrieve a variety of items to try on that fit just right. The products are all high-quality, the staff are professional undergarment sales associates, and the overall experience is so much more grown-up and enjoyable than doing this kind of shopping in the mall. Pricing is probably a little more on the high end (i.e., on average, $55 give or take for a bra), but today, for example, I found just what I needed for $35. And when they have sales, you can find great deals!

For personal service when you arrive at the store, sign in on the sign-in sheet, browse a bit, and a sales associate will find you as soon as she can. If you've been there before, they'll pull up your profile and past purchases to see what size you take and products you've liked in the past. If not, they'll explain a good fit, find just your size, and make a profile for you in their system.

“ I am a naturally chesty girl!

I lived in Dallas area for many, many years before relocating to Austin this past summer. The lady at the intimate apparel store that I went to for 10 years in Dallas suggested I try Petticoat Fair in order to avoid having to make the long trek back to Dallas just for intimates.

I walked into Petticoat Fair and was simply blown away. This store could rival any of the higher end stores in the Dallas area easily. The staff was very friendly and professional, the store was clean and organized, and the price on my bras (even though they were the same brand and everything) were about $10 cheaper than the bras I bough in Dallas - which was a pleasant surprise. I bought 3 everyday bras and a strapless bustier thingy for my wedding dress. I highly recommend this store to women who are chesty - they have an excellent selection (size, style and color), excellent service staff, "good" mirrors and roomy fitting rooms. I look forward to shopping here for many years to come.
