Bra Style and Fitting Basics

How do I know what size I am?

Bras vary in size from style to style and manufacturer to manufacturer. Just because you are one size in one bra does not automatically mean you will be the same size in another. We measure to get a starting point, but once we have seen a bra on you we will better know where to go with regard to size and style.

How did we learn to fit bras?

• Fitting techniques have been passed down from our store founder who learned to fit through corsetiering schools. We use knowledge of breast health, anatomy, and garment construction.
• Using 45 years of experience of how garments wear
• We utilize manufacturer training programs

Why should I wear a sports bra?

The bounce stops here! Without proper support during athletics, the connective tissue in the breast can be broken down. This leads to a loss of firm breast tissue and, in some cases, stretch marks. A sports bra is designed specifically to withstand the higher levels of impact encountered during sports. A supportive sports bra cannot be pulled over your head. If you can get it over your shoulders, it is not going to be tight enough around to be supportive.

In addition to the extra support they provide, sports bras are designed to hold up to increased perspiration and repeated wear better than most basic bra options. Also, most are made from wicking fabrics to help you stay cool and comfortable while exercising. We carry a wide range of sports bras for a wide range of activities, be it yoga, running, gym class or horseback riding. We also carry multiple wired styles of sports bras which give separation while still providing great support.

Why should I wear a sleep bra?

If you are moving during the night, so are your breasts, and they should be supported. Without proper support during sleep, the connective tissue in the breast can be broken down. This leads to a loss of firm breast tissue and, in some cases, stretch marks. Sleep bras provide this support comfortably.

Should I wear a molded cup bra?

Molded cup bras have a thicker cup than non-molded bras which can provide nipple coverage for a smoother look under tops. Molded cups have a shape of their own which has to be well matched to your own breast shape to ensure a proper fit and avoid gapping and pocketing. The thickness in a molded cup doesn't necessarily increase breast volume, but some styles can. If you are looking for nipple coverage, but molded cups are not the best option for you, there are other solutions. One solution being DIMRs, which are silicone disks you can place in your bra to achieve the same result without a molded cup.

What is the best color bra to wear under a white blouse?

Skin tones, cocoa or beige! You want to match your skin tone, not the blouse. White bras do not address most wardrobing needs. Today's fitted garments require basic skin tones in beige, nude, rose, and cocoa. These color tones, when matched to a woman's skin, disappear under most clothing, creating an opaque second skin effect.

Do we make custom fitted bras?

One of our fitters custom fits you in an existing bra that will be best for your shape and style. We occasionally alter bras when the situation calls for it, but a professionally fitted bra should feel like it is custom made just for you!

Yes! One of our cashiers can make them in any amount.

Can I buy a gift for my mom/wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter?

Yes! If she has been here before a fitter can look up her history we store in the computer to help find a gift that will work well. If she hasn't been here before we suggest a gift certificate so she may experience a quality bra fitting.

Can I order online?

Not at the moment, but we are hoping to offer it in the future. If you have been here before, feel free to call us and we can ship out bras that you have purchased before. We believe bras should be carefully fitted and selected to be sure you will be comfortable and happy with your purchase, so we do not offer online sales. We can, however take orders over the phone. This gives us the opportunity to check previous in-store purchases and make sure that you purchase the bras you liked that worked well for you.

What do I need to bring in to be fitted for a breast prosthesis after a mastectomy?

You will need a prescription, your insurance card(s). Insurance coverage varies, so please feel free to call and speak with a certified fitter to address your specific situation.

Bra Care

How long should a bra last?

It varies widely depending on how many bras you are rotating and how they are cared for. But with proper care, a bra wardrobe should last 3 to 6 months per bra. It is best to rotate through a supply of bras to extend the wear of your wardrobe, not a particular bra.

How should I take care of my bra?

• Proper care protects your bra! Always follow manufacturer instructions on the garment label and read through our general guidelines.
• A bra should be washed after each time it is worn to remove body oils, perfume, deodorant, and lotions. All of these things will break down the fabric.
• Proper care will lengthen the life of the bra. When possible, hand wash your garments with a mild detergent and hang dry. Otherwise, use a mesh lingerie bag on the hand wash or delicate cycle in your machine. Fasten the hooks of the bra, fold it in half, and place it in the bag with your other lingerie. Place the bag in the washer using a mild detergent such as Eucalan or Forever New. Always use the gentle cycle on your machine. Never use bleach or fabric softener. After the wash cycle, lay flat or hang your intimate apparel to dry. The extreme heat of the dryer will deteriorate the fabric and the wires of foundation garments.

How many bras should I have?

We recommend about 6 to 8 bras. For some women that can include various styles such as a T-back, seamed, seamless, push-up, strapless, sports bra, a low-cut plunge bra and one just for fun, or stock up on basic styles. You should wash your bra with each wear, so be mindful of how often you will need to do laundry. Each type of brassier has a particular function and purpose which must correspond to the needs of the outfit it is being worn under, so many women find it helpful to own a variety of styles.
